The main purpose of mulching is for water retention in the soil, keep an even soil temperature and to provide a decorative appearance.

Before mulching:

• Kill any weeds about 1-2 weeks before mulching
• Trim trees and bushes
• Remove any dead leaves, weeds and trimmings with a rake
• Rake the soil so it is level

Spread mulch at a minimum depth of 100mm over the garden beds for best results. Mulch will need to be topped up each year.
